Data Operations has been a recurring topic over the last few years, especially with the increase in Data Management initiatives and technologies, which struggle and fail to deliver the expected business value. Along with Metadata and Master data, DataOps is the third pillar of the data management “bridge” between “Old IT” and “New IT”, involving implementation of an automated and governed data pipeline.

Key challenges

  • “Data and analytics teams cannot achieve the desired speed and reliability of project delivery due to too many roles, too much complexity and constantly shifting requirements.
  • In most organizations, this complexity is exacerbated by limited or inconsistent coordination across roles involved in building, deploying and maintaining data pipelines.
  • Data and analytics leaders often have difficulty determining the optimal pace when introducing new techniques – wholesale reorienting of work processes, particularly in support of complex project delivery, can be highly disruptive.”

This Gartner study introduces the key concepts of DataOps in the data management domain as a new transversal topic.
