Enterprise Context Management: AI learns, context wins.

Data tells a system what exists. Context explains what it means, how it relates, which rules apply, whether it can be trusted and what actions are permitted. APGAR helps organizations connect and govern this context so it can be reused by people, analytics, AI products and agentic workflows, without replacing existing Master Data, Metadata, Governance, Knowledge or Data Platform investments.

When data alone is no longer enough.

Insconsistent answers

AI assistants and analytical products apply conflicting definitions and produce outcomes that are difficult to explain or trust.

Context : the missing layer between your data and your AI .

Govern the meaning, not just the data

Enterprise Context Management is the enterprise capability for identifying, connecting, governing, translating and activating the context required to interpret information and act accordingly. It combines meaning, trusted entities, relationships, knowledge, processes, rules, permissions, operational state, memory and available actions.

ECM extends existing Data Management and Governance foundations to the knowledge and operational context that analytical and AI consumers need. The objective is not to create another central repository or source of truth but rather connect them to gather meaningful and reliable insight.

Built for humans and machines

The Enterprise Context Layer translates human-readable business knowledge into machine-consumable context while keeping both representations aligned, traceable and connected to authoritative sources.

Data Management : the foundation of ECM.

Entity & Structure

Master Data, reference information and relationships that establish the core objects of the enterprise.

A phased approach to make enterprise context AI-ready .

Context Discovery

In a focused 2-to-4-week engagement, assess context maturity and coverage, prioritize use cases, identify context sources and gaps, and select a candidate MVP.

Context layer blueprint & MVP

Define the target capability, ownership model, source systems, representations and governance principles, then demonstrate the full context lifecycle on one bounded, high-value use case.

Enablement & Scale

Extend governed context across domains, consumers and use cases through reusable assets, operating practices, lifecycle controls, context APIs and observability.

Enterprise context discovery : from context gaps to a prioritized roadmap

Workshop 1 : Scope & priority use cases

Align business objectives, target consumers, assessment scope and the maturity required by priority use cases.

Workshop 2 : Data & Semantic foundation

Assess Master and Reference Data, Metadata, Data Quality, lineage, ownership, semantic assets and authoritative sources.

Workshop 3 : Business & operational context

Identify knowledge, processes, relationships, rules, instructions, tools, APIs, operational state and memory.

Workshop 4 : Translation & Consumption

Review how people, analytical products, AI applications and agents obtain context, including retrieval, semantic mappings, traceability and guardrails.

Workshop 5 : Governance & Observability

Review ownership, certification, access, lifecycle, provenance, freshness and monitoring requirements.

Workshop 6 : Target State & Roadmap

Prioritize capabilities, gaps and dependencies, select a candidate MVP and define pragmatic implementation steps.

What You Get at the End of the Discovery.

A clear assessment of your context readiness

Every recommendation is connected to the evidence collected during Discovery, the target gap it addresses and the roadmap action required. The assessment separates what context exists from the organization’s ability to govern, translate and activate it.

Your enterprise context discovery deliverables

  • Enterprise Context maturity and coverage profile
  • Data and semantic foundation assessment
  • AI and Agentic Context Readiness assessment
  • Priority use-case map and candidate MVP recommendation
  • Focused inventory of context sources and assets
  • Context gap and dependency map
  • Target Enterprise Context Layer capability view
  • Initial implementation and enablement roadmap

Scale and reuse context across AI.

Improve trust and explainability

Create a consistent basis for interpretation by connecting definitions, entities, relationships, provenance and decision rules.

Portrait Frederic ROBERT

“AI use cases rarely fail for lack of data. They fail because the context around the data is fragmented, ungoverned and unreadable by machines. The organizations that govern context best will scale AI best.”

FAQ : What is ECM ?

What is Enterprise Context Management?

Cosed

Enterprise Context Management is the enterprise capability for identifying, connecting, governing, translating and activating the context needed to interpret information and act appropriately. It brings together meaning, trusted entities, relationships, knowledge, processes, rules, permissions, operational state, memory and available actions for people and machines.

How is ECM different from traditional Data Management ?

Cosed

Traditional Data Management makes data reliable, governed and accessible. ECM extends this foundation to the surrounding knowledge required for interpretation and action. It does not replace Master Data Management, Metadata Management or Data Governance. It connects and activates those investments for human and machine consumers.

Is an enterprise context layer another repository ?

Cosed

No. The objective is not to copy enterprise information into another central repository or create a new source of truth. A federated Enterprise Context Layer keeps context connected to authoritative sources and translates it into reusable representations with governance, traceability, permissions, freshness and lifecycle controls.

Why is RAG alone not enough ?

Cosed

Retrieval-Augmented Generation can help retrieve relevant content, but enterprise context also includes governed meaning, trusted identities, relationships, rules, permissions, operational state, memory and approved actions. RAG, vector databases and knowledge graphs may contribute to ECM, but no single technology represents the complete capability.

How should an organization start ?

Cosed

Start with a bounded business, analytics or AI use case where fragmented context is a clear constraint. Assess the required context, existing sources, semantic foundations, ownership, translation mechanisms, permissions, freshness and consumption patterns. Use this evidence to select a candidate MVP and define a prioritized roadmap.

Is ECM maturity measured ?

Cosed

Maturity should be measured against a declared scope and paired with coverage. A practical progression is Fragmented, Documented, Governed, Reusable and Operationalised. The required target depends on the use case and on the specific context components on which it relies.
